Loch Maree
This 500m2 house on the edge of Loch Maree in Ross-shire in the North-West Highlands replaces a former forester's cottage. Set within a mature woodland setting with views from the site directly towards Slioch, one of the best known mountains in Scotland, the house has been designed to embrace the spectacular scenery.

The geometry of the house is angled to maximise solar gain and the house also utilises various energy-efficient features including a cellulose-fibre breathing-wall construction. Heating is by an air source heat pump and together with the whole-house ventilation system with heat recovery it results in very low energy costs for such a large house.

The building will weather to neutral tones due to the zinc cladding and a variety of timber finishes in the form of shingles, louvres and traditional boarding. Balconies, decks and terraces reach out into the landscape.
